Waconda Lake and Glen Elder Dam, located adjacent adjacent U.S. Highway 24, and less than half mile west of Glen Elder, and just east of Cawker City, Kansas, offers some of the best outdoor recreation, fishing, hunting and camping that Kansas offers.
Glen Elder State Park, located on the lake's north west shore, accents the beauty of the area and visitor accessibility. Here, you can see for miles in all directions. Plus, you will see some of the most spectacular vistas and sunsets that America has to offer. One of the Kansas' premier hunting and fishing locations, the Glen Elder Wildlife Area consists of 13,000 land acres surrounding all sides of the lake and 12,586 water acres. Many 1000s of acres are also dedicated to public walk-in hunting on other properties.

Accordingly, Waconda Lake services 21,000 acres of valley lands for irrigation and provides substantial municipal water supply, flood control, and pollution abatement benefits.
The lake and area are also rich in history and legend which extend into the lake's namesake -- Waconda. |
