This page provides information / resolution pertaining to the newest floodplain maps that now effect Mitchell County, Kansas.
The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) enables property owners to purchase flood insurance. In return, communities agree to adopt and implement local floodplain management regulations that contribute to protecting lives and reducing the risk of new construction and substantial improvements from future flooding. NOTE that if a person intends to build within a floodplain, ultimately it is the owner's responsibility to fill out the permit application and present it to the Floodplain Administrator for the community where the construction is planned to occur or, the county administrator should they live beyond any city limits, not in one of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) communities.
