Our Mission
The mission of the Mitchell County Communications Team is to instill confidence and trust in the citizens and agencies of Mitchell County, by providing effective leadership in Emergency Communications.

When NOT to call 9-1-1

• not to report power outages (unless medical equipment depends on power) or for your call to be transferred to the power company.
  
  
• not to report downed tree limbs not presenting an immediate threat to life or property.
  
  
• not to report loud noises or other nuisances-especially during peak times, such as holidays.

• not to report the use of legal fireworks.
  
  
• not to receive driving directions.

Our Services​
​
Mitchell County Communications was initiated in January 2004. Previously, the Dispatch center was staffed by the Beloit Police Department and, prior to that, the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department.

The Communications Center is directed by a 911 Director, who is overseen by the Mitchell County Commissioners and an advisory board.

All dispatchers are required to have extensive on the job training that can be 6-8 weeks, become NCIC Certified, EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) certified, and CPR certified. Starting in 2018, all Dispatchers will be required to have 24 hours of continuing education, after the initial hire and training has been completed.
 
Our communications center is updated with the newest and best 911 System available. It was installed in January 2016. We use many different programs to provide the best service we can, to our community. ​

The Communications Center is staffed by the Director and 5 full-time dispatchers.  Our dispatchers...

• work 12 hour shifts
• answer 5, 911 lines ​

• answer 7 administrative lines
• dispatch for 15 MC agencies

The Communications Center answers

• all emergency calls in Mitchell County
• administrative calls for the Beloit Police Department
• administrative calls for MC Sheriff’s Department & Jail
• ​administrative calls for Probation Office
• our own department

• We average 1300, 911 calls a year and 25,000 incoming and outgoing  administrative calls
  .​
  
• Besides dispatching and fielding calls, the Dispatch center is responsible for entering all wanted people, sex offenders, stolen property, and protection form abuse orders into the National Database System (NCIC).
